Hey! I’m Bea and that's my husband, Sam, and we're the makers (and eaters) of Speedie B’s. After finishing my PhD in archaeology from the University of Virginia (Wahoowa) and returning to the “running-est town in America,” – a.k.a Charlottesville – we decided we wanted to get back into race shape.
As a former college basketball player and amateur triathlete, I knew I needed healthy, energy-boosting snacks that I could take with me on long runs and bike rides. But I couldn't find anything that tasted great AND wasn't chock-full of soy or preservatives. Turns out I wasn't the only one. Our friend Megan – a serious runner and all-around cool gal – suggested I try creating Virginia's only organic energy bar that didn't feel like work to eat.
After a few "successful failures" in the kitchen, I discovered the perfect balance of taste and nutrition that staves off hunger, maintains energy levels, and helps with recovery. We knew we had something - now all we needed was the raw management acumen and creative spark to turn vision into reality. Brando sets the pace for us, both on the scenic trails of Central Virginia and in our day-to-day lives (which revolve around his walking and feeding schedule). He was in - at least, we think that's what he was trying to tell us. All he asked for was a taste of the profits.
